Dining in/near Ubud
One of the reasons dinners are NOT included in the yoga retreat, is that there are so many GREAT restaurants in Ubud, that it would be a waste not to visit them. Yes, you are in “Foodie Heaven”
Exceptional culinary experiences in Ubud are ridiculously cheap (maybe 30-50% of what you would pay in the SF Bay Area).
Even if you are not a carnivore, the following might help calibrate your dining budget…
I recall perusing the menu of Cafe des Artistes (an upscale/stylish restaurant in Ubud that claimed to be “known” for their filet mignon. They offered a regular cut and a supreme (i.e., “grande”) cut. The supreme cut (with two side dishes) was less than $10. I won’t even attempt to list all the amazing restaurants minutes away in Ubud.
Some healthy/yogic places walking distance from Ananda Cottages inlcude: Alchemy & Yellow Flower. If you are looking for that flavor in Ubud, you might check out Bali Buddha, Kafe, or Down to Earth
In addition to the nice restaurant at Ananda Cottates, there are upscale restaurants close by…
The closest is Indus Restaurant. Mozaic is an up-market alternative and Minami is geared toward a sophisticated Japanese palate. Just across the road from Minami, is the Uma Shambala Hotel an elegant vegetarian restaurant overlooking a Koi pond.
You don’t have to to “all in” for every meal (though you might be tempted to). Just up the road, Naughty Nori’s is a local institution for BBQ, beer and martinis (and supposedly one of the most popular eateries in Bali). Dijon is a deli restaurant and Bintang Supermarket is always close by for anything/everything else you might want.
You won’t go hungry!
What limits people is that they don’t have the nerve or imagination to star in their own movie, let alone direct it.
