Yoga in Sedona Retreat Q&A

A great deal of thought (and 3 previous trips to Sedona) has gone into the planning of this retreat,  but I will not even pretend to have all the answers. Many questions will be answered by the group after the participants have been determined. Following are answers to the best of my knowledge. As this page gets periodically updated existing answers will almost certainly change. New questions will be added to the top of the list.

Q: How many people will be attending?

A: This will be a very small group of 10-12 (depending on how single/double occupancy works out). We are limited by the number of beds (9). Get your deposit in NOW to reserve your space(s) and choose your Accommodations.

Q: Do I need to rent a car?

A: Maybe. This is another question that will be better answered after the group is “set.” For the most part, we will be able to share rides and limit the number of cars we rent as a group. I envision groups of 2-4 people sharing one car. I will suggest a “preferred arrival time” for those who want to share rental cars. If your travel plans are different from everyone else’s or if you like the freedom and independence of having your own vehicle. You are more than welcome to organize your own ground transportation. IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE RENTAL CAR SHARING, PLEASE DON’T BOOK YOUR AIRLINE TICKETS YET.

Q: What’s up with airline tickets??

A: You are responsible for all your travel arrangements. I am just suggesting ways to make things easier…
If you want to share a rental car for your stay in Sedona, I strongly encourage you to PURCHASE the following non-stop flights on Southwest Airline (recently as low as $189):
#5463 (SFO-PHX) 7:15-9:10 AM Tuesday 10/25
#3214 (PHX-SFO) 3:30-5:30 PM Sunday 10/30
I already purchased mine.
If you want to be on a different travel agenda (perhaps extending your stay a day or two), I will do my best to accommodate your schedule. However, please be aware that you may be on your own for ground transportation. We will revisit this when the roster of attendees solidifies.

Q: Will the sunrise and sunset hikes be strenuous?

A: No. The sunrise and sunset exploration of the energy vortexes will not be difficult (physically or logistically). The Trails are well marked. There are designated parking lots with trail maps and better than average toilet facilities. We are using the early and late light to avoid (as much as possible) the harsh desert sun. If there is enthusiasm, we may organize additional “optional” hikes.

Q: Is it OK to attend “solo”

A: Absolutely! Most attendees will have their own room (unless they want to share a bed or claim the “bunk bed” room). In many ways it is preferable to attend solo as you can focus your awareness inward and not have to worry about anyone else’s agenda or experience. All events, formal (on the Schedule) or casual (shown in pink on schedule) are optional. What tends to happen is that the group will decide on a path (i.e., lunch in town at a recommended cafe) and each individual will have the choice of going with the flow or breaking off into solo adventures or smaller groups (i.e., quality time with your book or breakfast with a new friend)

Q: The schedule looks a little “intense”. Do I have to attend all those sessions?

A: No, you don’t have to participate in ANYTHING & Yes, a retreat is supposed to be “intense”. It is a chance to look inward, challenge yourself and grow as a human being. It will only be as meaningful as YOU make of it.
